Writer's Story Idea
In my essay, I wrote about a subject that has contributed much in shaping my present views on climate change. My story happened in 1996, there was a lobby to cut down all the trees surrounding our school. Before a city ordinance was finally passed, parents, teachers, and students held a month-long protest. I became so passionate about those trees at the time that I even used my allowance for snacks and bottled water of protesters when we held vigil under the trees in hopes of frustrating the road widening plans.
It was a stressful time, especially for my parents. Although they were concerned about the complex situation I got myself into, they allowed me to join the protest. I learned a lot from getting involved in that student action. It made me realize how a strong, collective voice can make an impact.
I have been working with a non-government organization bent on protecting the environment. I can trace my present career inclination to the ardour of those protest days in my senior years in high school.
